Ben & Jerry’s new sweet mission supports refugees; Ben & Jerry’s joins forces with METAdrasi in Greece
Media highlight Ben & Jerry’s latest initiative in support of refugees through the launch of a new ice cream flavour called Sweet Mango Memories. This flavour was co-created by 13 refugee entrepreneurs who drew inspiration from the tastes and aromas tied to their happiest memories. The ice cream combines sweet cream, mango syrup, and chunks of white chocolate, aiming to evoke feelings of joy, unity, and nostalgia. One of the contributors, Zeinab Deria, described the experience as deeply meaningful, reflecting on how the flavour reminded her of sunny childhood days and the innocence of simpler times. She emphasized that the project was not just about making ice cream, but about envisioning a world without divisions. This is the second flavour developed through the UP Collective, a programme launched in 2017 by Ben & Jerry’s in collaboration with the social enterprise TERN, which supports refugee entrepreneurs in turning their ideas into businesses or nonprofits. The programme offers guidance in product development, marketing, and communication, empowering participants to thrive through their creativity and resilience.
And Ben & Jerry’s practical support to the refugees does not stop here. Ben & Jerry’s joins forces with METAdrasi NGO in Greece, supporting the innovative entrepreneurship programme, Ready4Business. Ready4Business supports refugees to open their own business to see their dreams come true, in valuable partnership with UNHCR. Recognizing that the lack of funding can be a major obstacle in their efforts to set up their own business in Greece, the beloved ice cream brand is helping refugee entrepreneurs make their goals a reality by supporting this programme. Ben & Jerry’s will be offering free ice cream at the Refugee Week Greece festival on June 20, bringing a refreshing treat to the celebration. Attendees will get to enjoy the brand’s signature flavours and the joy they bring.
